CCSA applauds the Senate for including the ASAP Act and $250 million for NY-Sun out of the Sustainable Future Fund in its one-house budget bill. The important and timely provisions of the ASAP Act include expanding the state’s distributed solar goal to 20 GW, meaningful reforms to reduce the cost of connecting solar to the grid, and a continuation of NY-Sun, New York’s most successful clean energy program.
As we continue to face dramatic price shocks from geopolitical events and affordability issues domestically, it is the perfect time to double down on local, fuel-free energy resources that decrease New York’s dependence on fossil fuels. The ASAP Act and expanded NY-Sun funding will ensure – as recent research affirms – that families across the state will see decreased energy costs as a result of growing rooftop and community solar, regardless of their direct participation in said programs.
As a next step, we urge the Assembly and Governor Hochul to include the ASAP Act and NY-Sun funding in their final FY2027 budget.
