Washington, D.C. – On May 8, the Connecticut Legislature approved Senate Bill 9, legislation intended to create a community solar program. Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA) Executive Director Jeff Cramer today issued the following statement in response to the news:
“This bill represents a small, modest step forward for community solar in Connecticut, but leaves the state far behind its neighbors in expanding customer access to clean, local, and affordable solar. Going forward, there are several aspects of the program that need to be addressed and improved to create equity, ensure customers’ ability to choose solar, and foster community solar investments in the state. In particular, CCSA looks forward to working with the Department of Energy & Environment (DEEP) and Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) to ensure the program isn’t overly burdensome to customers wishing to participate. The community solar industry looks forward to continuing to work with all stakeholders over the coming year to build on this pilot program with the goal of establishing a truly robust program that meaningfully expands access to solar across the state.”
