CCSA Statement Re: Massachusetts DOER’s Final Regulations for the SMART Program

BOSTON, MA – Today, the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) issued final regulations for the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program.

The Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA) issued the following statement from Erika Niedowski, northeast director, in response:

“CCSA is grateful to the Baker Administration and Secretary Theoharides for making adjustments to the SMART emergency regulations. We share the Administration’s dual goals of advancing clean energy while also protecting sensitive lands. At the same time, we remained concerned about the impact that land use provisions will have on the growth of local, distributed solar energy throughout the Commonwealth.

CCSA welcomes the commitment by Governor Baker and House and Senate leaders to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and we believe additional solar can play a critical part in achieving that goal. CCSA and our member companies stand ready to help the Commonwealth and we look forward to continued collaboration with the Department of Energy Resources, the Baker Administration, the Legislature and all stakeholders to ensure that Massachusetts remains a leader in the development of community solar that is accessible to all.”
