Coalition for Community Solar Access Urges Congress to Pass Funding and Incentives for Community Solar Projects

Washington, D.C. — The Coalition for Community Solar Access – on behalf of its over 80 members – has sent a letter to the leaders of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, urging passage of the federal funding and tax incentives for community solar projects that are contained in the Build Back Better Act.

The letter is addressed to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Majority Leader Charles Schumer and Minority leader Mitch McConnell, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and signed by Jeff Cramer, President and CEO of the Coalition for Community Solar Access. The letter states that advancing the bill would enable the continued rapid expansion of community solar, reduce energy bill costs and emissions, enhance grid resilience in the face of extreme weather, and create jobs.

“Households, businesses, and communities nationwide are increasingly looking to community solar as an option for clean, affordable energy. Despite the progress, we’re only scratching the surface of what’s needed to ensure we meet the nation’s clean energy and equity goals and that all Americans have access to low cost solar power,” Cramer said. “Industry leaders and the Department of Energy have set ambitious goals to power millions more homes with community solar in the years to come, saving consumers $1 billion in energy costs and creating tens of thousands of local, family sustaining jobs. But to meet these goals, we need help from leaders in Washington to support this expansion by immediately passing the first-ever federal funding and tax incentives for community solar contained in the Build Back Better Act.
